Why do we do what we do?

This compass rose out of solid wood lies in the top of an oval table J.T. John designed for a yacht based in Washington. It features Peruvian walnut, quilted maple, and “figured” teak, all in a field of teak.
At Northbeach Woodworks, we love what we do. We f eel incredibly fortunate to be able to spend our days surrounded by wood, working with our hands and minds to create something tangible and lasting that is both beautiful and practical.  We believe that the art of fine woodworking must not be lost, that the knowledge and skills that humans have refined for centuries must be nurtured and passed down.  We are confident that life is enhanced by living and working with furniture and cabinetry that is superbly designed and impeccably crafted.  So we find it deeply satisfying almost a calling to devote our energies and talents to fashioning beautiful wood creations that enrich our clients' lives and preserve our heritage.

How do we do what we do?

Northbeach Woodworks was founded by J.T. John, a third generation craftsman with over 25 years of experience.  J.T. was privileged to train with Japanese woodworking masters, where he developed a reverence for Japanese hand tools, methods, and philosophy, all of which foster a deep connection to the wood and a passionate commitment to control, precision, and excellence.  These values and commitments continue to inspire and inform everything we do today
in our modern facilities in California and Washington, where we use sophisticated machinery to create parts, which we join and finish by hand.

What do we do?

We create beautiful, useful items in wood, including furniture of all kinds and cabinetry and millwork for homes, offices, and yacht interiors.  We appreciate and have worked with many different kinds of wood.  We value sustainable management of our natural resources and, whenever possible, use woods certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, but we will gladly source whatever wood a client desires.  We have created furniture, cabinetry, and millwork in numerous styles, including Shaker, Arts & Crafts, Modern, and Traditional.  J.T. John is a talented and perceptive designer who loves to work with clients to create the specific piece or project desired, but Northbeach is also happy to build to your specifications.  We invite you to this site's Gallery to view samples of both:  our own designs and work we have done to our clients' specifications.

Who are our clients?

Our clients have varied design preferences, but they uniformly love wood, appreciate elegant and innovative design, and value flawless, time-honored craftsmanship in pieces perfectly suited to their function and built to last for generations.

If you are intrigued by what you see on our site, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your project. We will be happy to meet with you to explore your ideas and to discuss what their realization  will cost.
